The Geography of Experience
Art to understand our environment, and our relationship to it.
Welcome to my website! I'm an artist and restoration ecologist, inspired by the natural world and interested in our relationships with our environment -- as individuals, communities, and societies. With my paintings and sketches, I hope to inspire others to think about the places around us and the forces -- human and natural -- that have shaped our world over time.
I live and work in coastal Rhode Island, where people have lived for 20,000 years. Over the last several centuries, human development has had a profound impact on the natural environment, with consequences ranging from tragic to sublime. Throughout New England and everywhere around the world, beautiful, interesting and authentic places are being destroyed and homogenized by the forces of corporatism, consumerism and capitalism. I look for places and moments that are real, and hope to share them with others through my art.
